Stable, accurate inspection with simple operations

The ideal inspection machine, envisioned by us after observing manufacturing sites for over 40 years.
It is a high-level fusion of being “easy,” “precise,” and “stable.”
If any of these are lacking, it will hinder production on the floor.
An inspection machine designed to maximize on-site efficiency and elevate production quality to the absolute limit—that is GyroScan.

Laser Scanning Method

By irradiating the inner cylindrical surface with a laser while rotating the probe, minute blowholes and scratches are detected to make an OK/NG judgment.

  1. Set the workpiece
  2. The probe inspects the inner surface while rotating
  3. After inspection, the probe returns to its original position
  4. A developed surface image is displayed to make an OK/NG judgment

Inner Cylindrical Surface Inspection

Simply by inserting the probe into a cylindrical workpiece, defects on the inner cylindrical surface can be inspected.
The probe automatically adjusts the focal length and rotates while emitting a laser to detect any internal defects.
With high reproducibility, it automates visual inspections, thereby saving labor and improving inspection accuracy.

Inspection Applications

In the automotive products sector, the inner cylindrical surfaces of valve bodies, master cylinders, pistons, etc., can be automatically inspected.
Other products can also be inspected just as easily, precisely, and stably.

Blowhole / Porosity Inspection

  • Engine bores
  • Cylinder liners
  • Master cylinders
  • Valve bodies
  • Pistons, etc…

Inspection Data Traceability

High Precision

GyroScan inspects based on the “condition” of the target workpiece surface rather than its “color.” It collects a point cloud of the surface condition using a laser with a minimum spot diameter of 33μm and converts it into 256-gradation data. It performs linear comparative calculations in the circumferential and linear directions of the target area to detect anomalies. Therefore, it is less susceptible to changes in surface hue caused by lot differences, realizing highly reproducible inspections.

An inspection machine for the floor, usable at the production site

GyroScan achieves inspection at a high-speed rotation of 16,000 rpm. Scanning is completed in less than half the time compared to conventional models. Given the same scan time, it enables high-definition inspection that is more than twice as detailed.

* The graph above shows scan times. Actual inspections will require additional time for the elevation of the laser probe and response time for external signals.

Variable Focus Type Probe

GyroScan adopts a variable focus type probe. It constantly acquires clear, focused data and can detect minute defects down to a minimum of Φ0.05mm. Furthermore, even if a single workpiece has inspection areas of different diameters, it can be inspected without changing the probe.

Laser Method instead of Camera Method

Unlike the camera method which measures information by surface, GyroScan’s laser method measures point by point. Because it classifies direct data into 256 gradations rather than using secondary values, the inspection criteria can be clearly defined. As a result, comparative calculations become accurate, enabling improved reproducibility and a reduction in over-detection. Also, unlike the camera method which requires a light source to make scratches and blowholes stand out, the laser method requires no external light source. Therefore, installation is easy, and because it is unaffected by the surrounding environment, it has excellent reproducibility.

Inspection Screen

On the inspection screen, various algorithms are combined to detect scratches, blowholes, etc. Defective parts are detected based on 256 color gradations. Comprehensive judgments are made based on their size and density to determine if the workpiece is a pass or fail. Since multiple inspection logics can be used simultaneously within the same area, comprehensive inspections covering various patterns can be performed.

Built-in Inspection Axis

GyroScan has a built-in actuator that drives the probe. It is possible to inspect the workpiece simply by setting it in a fixed position. Therefore, it is easy to incorporate into conveyance equipment. Since the drive system and measurement system are combined in advance, accurate and highly reproducible inspections can be performed.
